Adam Wilson does not provide legal services to the public, but does provide informal pro bono dispute resolution and dispute mentoring for emerging and mid-career artists.
The goal is to equalize — to empower artists so that the artist has a fair chance to advocate for themselves for justice, and for protection of the artist’s rights.
He offers this service pro bono in circumstances of power asymmetry — where a person or company with more power and more resources attempts to engage in misconduct to exploit an artist or improperly diminish an artist’s rights.
Over the past decade, by serving as an equalizer, he has helped empower over two dozen artists worldwide who have faced unequal situations relating to their artworks.
Adam Wilson has also served large groups of artists on a formal basis, including as one of several co-class counsel in a California class action lawsuit attempting to protect art students from alleged systemic financial misconduct by a for-profit art school. See Bassler and Stanfield v. San Francisco Academy of Art University (California, 2020-2022, Case No. CGC-17-557866).
