This disclaimer explains attorney websites, attorney-client retention agreements, legal advice, attorney-client relationships, and the jurisdictions where I am licensed. It explains the clear distinction between my law practice and my separate mediation, consulting, and other work. It explains what must happen before I enter into an attorney-client relationships to provide legal advice. As this disclaimer shows, I do not enter into an attorney-client relationship, and I do not provide legal advice, unless and until a letter agreement is signed by both parties. That letter is fully described below.

This site is attorney advertising. It is not legal advice, and your use of this site does not form or constitute an attorney-client relationship. By using this site, you agree it provides only general information for education purposes, and nothing more.

I do not provide legal advice or enter into an attorney-client relationship absent (a) a conflicts check confirming no conflicts and (b) unless and until there is (1) an attorney-client retention letter (2) signed by both of us (3) that defines a specific matter (4) in a jurisdiction where I am authorized to practice law. Unless and until such a letter, there is no attorney-client relationship, and any communications we have are not, and are not intended to be, legal advice.

I also serve as a mediator, and I also provide consulting services. Any communications we have regarding mediation, consulting, or otherwise are not legal advice, and do not form or constitute an attorney-client relationship. Again, at all times, a letter as described above is always required before I enter into an attorney-client relationship and provide legal advice.

Accordingly, absent such a letter, you agree that any communication(s), material(s), and/or information conveyed, in any form, always relates to mediation, consulting, or other non-legal activity, and is never legal advice or an attorney-client relationship.

Hiring an attorney is an important decision. You should consult an attorney in your jurisdiction, and not this website, as to your particular issue. Information on this site should not be acted upon without seeking individual legal counsel. Among other things, the law is always changing, and it may vary depending upon your particular jurisdiction. I am licensed in three jurisdictions: Maine, California, and the District of Columbia.

Do not send information unless requested. Information, materials, and communications are not privileged or confidential unless and until there is an attorney-client relationship.

I am not specialized and I do not have any special certification or specialized expertise in art law, media law, or entertainment law, which, as explained on this site, are not one single area of law, but rather a blend of many areas of law, combined with industry norms. I do not and cannot promise any specific result in a case. I do not practice law or undertake an attorney-client relationship except where I am licensed and authorized to practice law. I do not practice law or advertise in any jurisdiction where it is prohibited.

If your matter requires legal knowledge that I do not possess, I will advise you to retain a qualified lawyer in that area. For example, I am not a tax lawyer. Further, I limit the scope of my practice to advice; I do not undertake litigation except in certain specific co-counsel scenarios.

In sum, my mediation, consulting, and other work does not provide legal advice, and it does not form or constitute an attorney-client relationship. I do not enter attorney-client relationships or provide legal advice unless and until the above-referenced, mutually agreed-upon, attorney-client retention letter is complete. If you have any questions about these important distinctions, please contact me directly at (207) 699-9957.
